INCEPTION

DIRECTOR: CHRISTOPHER NOLAN

MAIN CAST: LEONARDO DiCAPRIO, JOSEPH GORDON-LEVITT, MARION COTILLARD, ELLEN PAGE, TOM HARDY AND MICHAEL CAINE.

IN A SENTENCE: A mind-bending intelligent sci-fi thriller that keeps you on your toes from the first scene to the last.

THE GOOD: This is the second time I’ve watched this movie and I could say just about everything about this movie was more than good, but I’ll focus on the acting and the special effects.

Both were of the highest calibre possible and with such a strong cast that’s exactly what you would expect. DiCaprio and Cotillard turned in an A class performance, ably assisted by Page, Gordon-Levitt and a suitably subdued performance by Hardy. None of them gave the impression the role needed more than very subtle performances despite the intricacy of the plot and concept. An intelligent script helped of course.

The special effects were also a major plus with folding worlds within worlds. A very appropriate visual aid to a complex storyline.

THE BAD: Despite an excellent performance there were times when I felt DiCaprio wasn’t giving it his all. He’s a powerful actor and yet he didn’t quite convince me of his emotional commitment at times. Having said that in some scenes he was utterly convincing and perhaps it was those scenes that drew attention to the weak elements.

THE UGLY: Nope! Can’t find anything.

THE SCORES: WRITING: 8 / PHOTOGRAPHY: 7 / PLOT 10 / ACTING: 8
