MEANWHILE…#5
This is what I’m getting up to lately…
Reading: Just finished “The Half Heroes” series by Ian W. Sainsbury. Loved it but couldn’t help feeling the third book was a little rushed at the end. Rereading Julian May’s “Saga of the Exiles” Series after 40 years. Finished book 1 The Many Coloured Land and most of the way through book 2 The Golden Torc. Every bit as good as I remembered it to be, despite some language and references that would cause a bit of a stink if it was published recently. The series is out of print and I had to buy the four novels from an online site selling second hand books. When the ban cheile saw the well thumbed books she was amazed I’d actually have books that battered. But the urge to read them again was greater than my dislike of second hand books.
Watching: Joe Pickett series 1 is keeping us entertained this week. The setting is pretty but not a patch on the photography in Yellowstone and the characters are believable at least. It’s a nice change from the drudgery that was The Witcher series 3. The first 4 episodes were an absolute drag and only saved by the fifth and apparently final episode of the season. I couldn’t help feeling Henry Cavill was right to jump ship at this stage and leave the role to Liam Hemsworth. Season 2 of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds has caught our imagination. Season 1 was a bit luke warm but they seem to have gotten their mojo back for this season.
Listening To: A wide variety of music over the past week because I’ve been consolidating my music files into one place and organising how they’re grouped and labelled. All this in an effort to add them to the local network and make them available to us both over the wifi. Still a work in progress.
Making: Meals and keeping a relatively clean house.
Doing: Some gardening. I’ve taken over grass cutting and strimming duties this summer after GUC#4 bought his own house at the end of last summer. Of course touring garden centres and buying plants featured heavily last month. This year we’ve finally agreed to stop buying bedding plants that disappear after one season and invest in perennials instead. Now if I can only convince the boss to approve more evergreens I’ll be a happy man.
Enjoying: Spending time with the Ban Cheile and our crazy chiweenies in the garden. Eating all of our meals in the open air for the past couple of months.
Looking Forward To: Seeing a bit more of the Dublin Branch. Circumstances have made trips to Dublin non-existent over this summer and so I’m looking forward to fixing that in the autumn. Also, we’re excitedly anticipating the arrival of grandchild #12 due later this month ♥.
